Pro-Life Patriotism

This weekend, I celebrated the 233rd anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence of this great nation from British rule. As Americans, we tend to have a great sense of patriotism, especially around the Fourth of July and its festivities. This year, as I was thinking about what it truly means to be a patriot, I thought back to the ideas of our founding fathers. One of these ideas is that of a nation with religious freedom. However, we must be careful to not associate this with an exclusion of religion or God from national issues. In fact, in the very Declaration of Independence, mention of God appears in the first sentence and the "Creator" in the second.Furthermore, our forefathers fought for what they believed in. They believed in the power of the people,  the ideals of democracy, and in the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. They spoke out against the tyranny of taxes that were not in the best interest of the people and against laws that were unreasonable. From all of this action, we are able to live in this free country. It is not without action that results occur. As Americans, it is our right and our responsibility to speak out with passion for the oppressed. As Pro-Life citizens, we must educate people about the facts and misconceptions about abortion. We must lobby, call our representatives, and demand that we are represented properly in bills and laws regarding this issue. We must make it our number one priority to build up the culture of life and make sure that every human being has the inalienable right to life.
