Intern for CCI

The Catholic Conference of Illinois, the public policy office of the Roman Catholic Church in Illinois, is seeking two summer interns to assist with organizing parishes in the Archdiocese of Chicago for the Spring 2010 Catholics at the Capitol event. Catholics at the Capitol is the statewide advocacy day in Springfield where parishes from across the state come together to promote legislative issues based on Catholic Social Teaching to state legislators.Duties of the interns will be:* Contacting pastors in the Archdiocese of Chicago to set up meetings with them.* Visit the parishes to speak with pastors and other parish staff about legislative issues pending in Springfield affecting the Catholic community.* Engage pastors in committing to send parish representatives to Catholics at the Capitol.* Work with CCI staff to develop a presentation about Catholics at the Capitol for the meetings.Qualifications Candidates should:* Be current college students or recent college graduates,* Be committed to and have familiarity with Catholic Social Teaching,* Have familiarity with current events and Illinois state politics,* Be self-motivated,* Have good organizational and speaking skills, and* Be comfortable working on a team, as the two interns will make the visits and presentations to the parishes together.The internship will run from late May to early August. A commitment of approximately 20 hours per week is required. However, most of the interns’ time will be spent out of the office making visits to parishes, so there is some flexibility in terms of the time schedule. Compensation is $1000 per month. Travel within the Archdiocese of Chicago will be required; a stipend will be provided to offset transportation costs.This is an excellent opportunity for someone interested in state politics to put their faith in action.
