Protecting the unborn, marginalized, & forgotten. – 2018 weDignify Conference Reflection
My experience at the weDignify Conference this year was truly transformative. It was my first conference and I was excited to come together with other pro-life college students for a day of learning and growth. The most impactful element for me was listening to two women share their experiences with abortion. I had never before met anyone who had an abortion, at least that I knew of, and it was so impactful to hear first-hand about the effects it had on both of these women. Not only did abortion negatively alter their lives at the moment, but is still affecting them, their families, and their lives to this day.Hearing from Linda Couri, who was a counselor for Planned Parenthood years ago, shined a new light on my understanding of Planned Parenthood. She explained how easy it was to get pulled into the mindset that everything they were doing was to help women, and finding ways to talk herself into something being for the betterment of women when it didn’t feel quite right. It was also incredibly moving to be surrounded by so many young college students from other universities. It was refreshing to hear about the movement on their campus and all the beautiful ways they are standing up for life every single day. I definitely learned from them in witnessing how they are serving life, and feel even more called to create a culture of life on Loyola’s campus. The knowledge I gained from listening to various testimonies and talks will serve me every day as I remain involved in the pro-life movement. I left feeling more knowledgeable and incredibly inspired to remain active and dedicated to protecting the dignity of all people, especially the unborn, marginalized, and forgotten.Kileen Albright is a junior studying nursing at Loyola University Chicago.
