Equal Standards for Abortion
Right now, abortion clinics in Illinois operate under lower standards of care than other surgical clinics like foot and eye clinics. This is neither fair nor safe for women. Why the double standard? Why are abortionists not held accountable? HB 2321 requires abortion clinics to meet all the same health and safety standards as all other ambulatory surgical treatment centers.
Informed Choice
House Bill 786 simply requires that a woman seeking an abortion, after 6 weeks gestation, be offered the opportunity to view an ultrasound of her baby. Right now, there is no legal requirement to inform women of the choice that they're making. They can go through with an abortion without ever being offered an ultrasound. They can be lied to about the gestational age of their baby and they can be subjected to greater risks.
Pro-Woman? Really?
Pro-abortion groups like Planned Parenthood and ACLU claim to be pro-woman and to speak for the best interests of women. Why then, are they fighting these bills? How can you be pro-woman and pro-lower-standards-for-women? They say that abortion is about equality. They say it makes men and women more equal. Why then are they fighting a basic, common sense measure that would level the inequality in medical standards for these 'women's clinics'?Maybe they're interested more in their profit streams than really helping women? After all, adoption is not a very profitable business. Abortion makes up for 98% of PP's services to pregnant women. Let's hold them to their word that they're pro-woman and hold them to the same standards as everyone else!Note: Ambulatory Surgical Treatment Centers (ASTCs) are outpatient surgical centers that do surgeries like eye surgeries or foot surgeries. Abortion clinics are ASTCs but a court settlement in the late 1980s allows them to have lower health and safety standards than all other ASTCs. Why should women going to abortion clinics have less health and safety requirements protecting them than other ASTCs?
