"Truly invigorating!"
In January, SFLI led groups of students from 9 different Illinois schools in both the March for Life Chicago and the National March for Life in Washington, D.C. Students returned excited and inspired to lead on their campuses. In the coming weeks, we will be sharing a few of these students’ stories. The first is from Abby, a sophomore at DePaul University, who attended the 2016 March for Life Chicago. Here’s Abby's story:This year, as a sophomore, I finally joined DePaul Students for Life. I had grown up pro-life and was up to date on news concerning pro-life issues, but I had never given my time to actively work against the issues surrounding abortion. I decided I would finally make time in my life to fight for others’ lives, because if we don't, who will? I was very excited to participate in the March for Life Chicago as my first march and really, my first step of activism. I was expecting the march to be exciting and enjoyable, considering there would be so many people there who believed in the same goal as I did. What I got out of the march was so much more than I expected! It was truly invigorating! (And not just because it was a -20 degree windchill!) Being able to stand on stage with my SFLI peers as a backdrop for prominent pro-life figureheads from all areas of the issue, I felt like I truly was doing something for the pro-life cause. Looking out into the crowd and seeing thousands of marchers, it gave me hope that one day we can not only reverse the Roe v. Wade abortion decision, but create a world where abortion is unthinkable and unnecessary. The actual march - or perhaps I might call it a parade - was one of the most uplifting things I’ve seen and been a part of! The marchers were forceful and clear on their mission, but in such a joyous and loving way that no one could say we were hateful or uncaring. People of all ages (including babies!) and so many different organizations were there, all working towards a common cause. The March for Life Chicago, with its culture of joy and respect for life, by contrast made the culture of death we live in today much more clear and real. The March for Life Chicago strengthened my belief in the pro-life mission, and has inspired me to be an active advocate for mothers and unborn children without a voice. We are proud of Abby in her deepened commitment to protect life on campus!
