Abortion and Breast Cancer: The Link...

This past week, Students for Life of Illinois took part in the 2008 SpeakOut Illinois conference, entitled "Raising a New Generation." Among the speakers of the event were distinguished pro-life leaders, such as Scott Klusendorf, Sandy Rios, Patricia Bainbridge, Eric Scheidler, and Jill Stanek. One particular session that I found quite informative was that of Dr. Angela Lanfranchi, and it was entitled "The Really Inconvenient Truth - The Abortion-Breast Cancer Link."In this talk, Dr. Lanfranchi exposed much of the failure of the scientific community to make known the obvious and dangerous link between abortion and breast cancer. But she also gave the evidence as to how we know that there is in fact a link, as well as more importantly explaining the science behind why abortion would lead to an increased risk of breast cancer. One particular study she brought up was that discussed within the Fall 2007 edition of the Journal of American Physicians and Surgeons. This study (http://www.jpands.org/jpands1203.htm) shows the relation between the abortion rates in particular countries as compared to the rate of breast cancer in each respective country. This was one among many resources she brought to light in our battle to make this deadly link known.Rather than making a feeble attempt at explaining the scientific evidence behind the link as effectively and informatively as Dr. Lanfranchi did, I invite all to go to her website, at http://www.bcpinstitute.org/. The Breast Cancer Prevention Institute is an organization co-founded by Dr. Lanfranchi herself, and its findings and resources are valuable tools in our fight against both breast cancer and abortion.Throughout Dr. Lanfranchi's workshop, I'll have to admit, the facts spoke for themselves. It became increasingly obvious that she has spent a great deal of time studying breast cancer and the steps we as a society must take towards its prevention. I personally was unaware of the vast array of evidence linking breast cancer to abortion, and I am very glad to have had her come speak at this year's SpeakOut Illinois.
