Helping Pregnant Students
In two weeks there will be Pregnancy Resource Forums (PRFs) on the campuses of two major Illinois Universities. University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign (4/8) and Northwestern University (4/9) will both host Serrin Foster of Feminists for Life of America. Serrin will moderate a forum on each campus comprised of different campus groups that have an interest in or capacity to help pregnant and parenting students. This is the first step down a road in which these campuses will be more open to life!Students for Life of Illinois is a sponsoring organization of this effort at both schools. We would like to have these forums on every campus in the state! If your campus is interest please contact us.In recent campus news at U of I, the student paper, the Daily Illini ran this article. It's about a pregnant student who took a semester off to have her child after deciding against an abortion. To my surprise it was on the front page of the paper just a few days ago. A much greater surprise was the array of comments on the article. Many of them did not think that this should be front page news and some were just downright hurtful. These opinions expressed show that our campuses, and U of I in particular, are not very open to life. Not only are they not open to life in principle and practice, which we knew already, but also in attitude. If you are from a nearby campus please come and experience the PRF near you and see if you can make it happen on your campus!I will post more information and updates on how these events go.P.S. These events are expensive for the student pro-life groups to put on. If you are interested in helping them underwrite the cost, please contact me at deddens@sflillinois.org
