Pro-Life Democrats Stirring Up the Party

Article HereSome Pro-Choice Democrats are questioning the work of the Pro-Life Democrats, asking whether it is best to work with them and support them as they are Democrats, or to deny them support due to their "anti-choice" platforms. The article is interesting, and I encourage you to read it, but there is one thing I need to highlight and bring into discussion, and it is regarding how Goldstein, the writer of the article, portrays DFLA's 95-10 Initiative (See the DFLA site for more information):

Since 2005, anti- and mixed-choice Democrats have been pushing the 95-10 initiative, which seeks to reduce the abortion rate (which is, in fact, already going down) by 95 percent over the next decade. While the plan would expand federal support for family planning and access to contraceptives, it also includes parental notification laws and a ban on certain later-term abortion procedures. Those aren't policies many Democrats who identify as pro-choice will get behind.

It seems Goldstein needs a 'reality check.' What she fails to mention is that most Americans do not support many late-term abortions, and also that a sizable majority of Americans favor parental notification laws. Since most Americans won't have a problem with 95-10, why would the Democratic party? If these Democrats really support choice, then they will help the pro-life Democrats pass the 95-10 Initiative, because it will in fact help reduce the abortion rate, which is what pro-lifers and pro-choicers want. It is a bill that both sides can agree on.
