Record Breaking Attendance at SFLI Conference!
Clamor, commotion, and conversations of life echoed through Lincoln Hall at the University of Illinois at the 7th Annual SFLI Conference on October 19, 2013.This marked the largest Pro-Life Collegiate Statewide Conference in the NATON!The SFLI Conference educates, equips, and empowers students to build a culture of life on their campus. Students gathered in Champaign from Carbondale, Milwaukee, Peoria, Chicago, and more.What are your biggest struggles with being pro-life on campus?“Being the minority makes the stand more difficult”Linda Couri shared her gripping personal testimony as a former clinical therapist at a Planned Parenthood, just blocks away from the Conference. She taught students what abortion is and how it hurts women and children.What are your biggest struggles with being pro-life on campus?“The in-class assumption that intelligence=pro-choice”Jay Watts, a bioethics speaker and writer from Life Training Institute, guided students through common pro-choice arguments and how to rationally respond, providing students with a firm, logical foundation.What are your biggest struggles with being pro-life on campus?“Previously, it was that I didn’t know how to address pro-choicers, but now I do.”In 2011, 45 students attended.In 2012, 85 students attended.This year a record breaking 100 students flooded into the SFLI Conference!What was your favorite part of the conference?“I was so inspired and feel extremely well informed.”Educated, equipped, and empowered, students were sent back to campus to build up a culture of life.Over the past two months, they have done just that. Students served women and children in need, persuaded their fellow peers to live actively pro-life, and continued their education in becoming pro-life leaders.Together, we are building up a culture of life everyday where it is needed most -college campuses.
