Why They Teach…

As the school year gets underway, our student leaders are dedicated to fostering a culture of life on campus. These students speak up for life on campuses where many of their peers disagree with them. Yet they continue to teach students and change hearts. Read below to meet some of these amazing leaders and find out why they choose to teach!

Hello, my name is Jonah Sweley and I’m a junior at U of I.

Growing up, I was always passionate about the pro-life cause, but I lacked the patience to render meaningful dialogue.

Participating in a WeDignify small group changed this. Growing in my pro-life advocacy has been some of my life’s most fulfilling work.

I’m leading a small group to kindle that same passion in other students and channel it towards something greater.

Hi! My name is Sophia.

Despite being strongly pro-life, I dreaded when abortion came up in my high school class discussions because I had no idea how to speak up for what I believed.

That's why I joined a WeDignify small group, where I learned about abortion and how to thoughtfully discuss those truths with others.

Now, I felt equipped to respectfully share what I had learned, even when everyone else disagreed. I’m leading a small group to help others learn how to compassionately speak up for the unborn babies who cannot yet speak for themselves.

My name is Will, and I teach because when my mom was pregnant with me, she became very sick, and her only choice was to deliver me two months early.

When I was young I realized that while the doctors were rushing to save her life and mine, at the same time in another hospital in America similar doctors may have been rushing to end the life of a child my level of development or possibly older.

It was this truth among many others which ignited my desire to share the truth about abortion, and it was the example of my small group leader who deepened this desire and strengthened my confidence in doing so.

There are many more weDignify student leaders, and each one of them has a story like this to tell. To read the rest of their testimonies, visit us on Instagram or Facebook!
