Judge Puts Parental Notice ON HOLD
We were surprised this morning when the Medical Board [see back story here] refused to extend the "grace period" against enforcement of the Parental Notice of Abortion Act of 1995. One of the board members actually stated that they are not "babysitters" for the Illinois Courts. This afternoon at 3pm the Cook County Circuit Court granted a temporary restraining order to put Parental Notice back on hold.According to the Thomas More Society, "The federal courts have already ruled that the Parental Notice Act is valid and constitutional under the U.S. Constitution, and the Illinois Supreme Court has instructed [PDF of letter] that 'our state courts are prepared to proceed to apply the law as enacted.'" Yet the circuit court still sided with the ACLU's attempt to read broad abortion rights into the US Constitution. We are waiting on word from TMS on what will happen next.
